Our Beliefs

We trust in Jesus Christ as our Savior, acknowledge Him to be Lord of all and the Head of the Church, and through Him believe in one God, manifested in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  We believe that God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, Jesus, that whoever believes in Him might not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16).  We believe that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and that no one comes to God the Father except through Him (John 14:6).  We believe there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven, given among humankind, by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).  It is our goal to grow in our own faith and relationship with Jesus Christ, fixing our eyes on Him as we run with perseverance the race He has set before us (Hebrews 12:1-2).  Because we have experienced this loving personal relationship with Him, it is our desire to help others come into and grow in such a relationship themselves.

We accept the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments in the Bible to be inspired by the Holy Spirit as the unique and authoritative witness to Jesus Christ in the Church universal, and the very word of God written, without error in all that it affirms.

We are instructed and guided in our understanding of the Scriptures by the essential tenets of the Reformed faith, as found in the confessions of our church.  These include the Nicene Creed, the Apostles' Creed, the Scots Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, the Second Helvetic Confession, the Westminster Confession of Faith & Catechisms, the Theological Declaration of Barmen, the Confession of 1967, and a Brief Statement of Faith - Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).  (Click here for more information on these.)

An example of these, which we sometimes recite in worship, is the ancient Apostles' Creed:  I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost [Spirit], born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he arose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick [living] and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost [Spirit]; the holy catholic [universal] church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen.

We seek to follow the Lord Jesus Christ, love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love our neighbors as ourselves.  We seek to follow Jesus' great commission to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all that Jesus commanded us, assured of His eternal presence with us.

We believe the great purposes of the Church are: the proclamation of the Gospel for the salvation of humankind; the shelter, nurture, and spiritual fellowship of the children of God; the maintenance of divine worship; the preservation of the truth; the promotion of social righteousness; and the exhibition of the Kingdom of Heaven to the world.
